Role Overview
Associates handle defined legal matters and workstreams, communicate directly with clients and support Senior Associates and Partners in delivering high-quality legal services.
This role is intended for lawyers who have developed a solid technical foundation and are ready to take greater ownership of legal matters, client relationships and junior team development.
Schinder Law Firm advises international companies, foreign investors and Indonesian businesses on corporate transactions, foreign investment, projects, regulatory matters and dispute resolution under Indonesian law.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle corporate, transactional, regulatory and dispute-related matters under the supervision of a Senior Associate or Partner.
- Conduct legal research and prepare legal advice, agreements, correspondence, due diligence reports and regulatory submissions.
- Identify relevant legal and regulatory risks and translate findings into clear, practical recommendations for clients.
- Manage assigned workstreams, including scope, timelines, documentation, follow-up and coordination with internal and external parties.
- Communicate professionally with clients, counterparties, external advisers and relevant authorities.
- Participate in negotiations, client meetings and matter-strategy discussions.
- Review and supervise work prepared by Junior Associates, Paralegals and Interns when assigned.
- Maintain accurate matter records and ensure that work is completed in accordance with the firm’s quality, confidentiality and professional standards.
- Contribute to internal legal knowledge, training, precedents and improvements to the firm’s working methods.
- Support client relationships, professional networks and appropriate business development activities.
- Demonstrate integrity, accountability and ownership in all assigned work.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in law from a reputable university.
- Two to four years of relevant experience at a law firm or in a substantial in-house legal role.
- Admission to the Indonesian Bar and a valid advocate licence are preferred.
- Good knowledge of Indonesian corporate, commercial and regulatory law.
- Strong legal research, drafting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Professional fluency in written and spoken English and Bahasa Indonesia.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines and maintain attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate directly and professionally with clients and other stakeholders.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to provide practical, solution-oriented legal support.
- High ethical standards, sound professional judgment and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative and multilingual team.
Career Development
Associates who consistently demonstrate technical excellence, matter ownership, client-management capability, sound judgment and leadership potential may be considered for progression to Senior Associate.
Progression is based on sustained performance, professional growth and contribution to clients, the legal team and the firm.
